Anthemis are a genus of clump forming and mat forming short lived perennials, grown for their attractive aromatic foliage and daisy like flowers. The golden-eyed flowers which range in colour from white through lemon-yellows and onto golden oranges, are borne in succession from late spring and until late summer and in many cases make excellent cut flowers.


   

Varieties: -

Anthemis. noblis See Chamaemelum nobile (Chamomile)

Form: Invasive, evergreen, mat-forming perennial
Height: 4in (10cm)
Spread: 18in (45cm)
Foliage: Finely divided aromatic leaves.
Flowers: Daisy-like heads of white flowers with yellow centres, produced in late spring or summer.

Description: The tea is recommended to help flatulence and dyspepsia. Also for relief of pain, painful periods and as a general health-giving all round tonic. Dried flower heads are used in teas, lotions and potpourri.

Sowing Instructions: Start seed indoors from late winter through early summer. Sow seed on the surface of a pre-moistened potting soil and mist to ensure good seed/soil contact. Loosely cover container with a sheet of plastic wrap to retain moisture. Germination takes 14-28 days at 60-70F.

Seeds can also be direct sown outdoors in early spring, after all danger of frost.

Growing Instructions: Transplant on to individual 3in. pots when large enough to handle. Gradually acclimatize to outdoor conditions and set out after all danger of frost at a spacing of 12in.

Culinary Notes: Dried flower heads are used in teas, lotions and potpourri



Variety 'Treneague'
Form: Evergreen, mat-forming perennial
Height: 4in (10cm)
Spread: 18in (45cm)

Flowers: Non-flowering

Used extensively to make lawns 

Description: A brilliant green lawn if cut regularly, stays green in hot dry weather and particularly useful on light soils. Delightful fragrance when freshly mown. Plant out 6x6in.

Sowing Instructions: Sow in trays, pots, etc of good seed compost in a propagator or warm place to maintain an optimum temperature of 65-70F (18-20C). Surface sow and do not exclude light. Sowing Time: February to July. Germination usually takes 14-30 days.

Growing Instructions: Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Acclimatise young plants to outdoor conditions before planting out 30cm (12in) apart in full sun.

Aftercare Instructions: Prefers a well drained soil.

Form: Evergreen, carpeting, perennial
Height: 12in (30cm)
Spread: 12in (30cm)
Foliage: Dense, finely cut, silvery leaves, that turn green in winter.
Flowers: In early summer, bears many small, daisy-like,
white flowers with yellow centres.

Frost Hardy

Description: Prolific and continuous display of warm orange blooms up to 2½in across. Finely cut grey/green foliage. Excellent border and cut flower.

Cut back hard following flowering to tidy the plant and promote new growth

Fully Hardy

Description: Large single bright lemon blooms, attractive grey-green foliage. Invaluable for borders and cut flowers.

Grow in reasonably fertile, well drained soil, in full sun.
