Armeria
Thrift / Sea Pink
PLUMBAGINACEAE
Herbaceous
Perennials

|
Armeria are a
delightful group of small clump-forming perennial plants, much
appreciated for their fluffy, rounded flower heads during late spring
through early summer, borne on the ends of upright stems and held above
mostly grass-like mounds of green foliage.
Thrifts are most useful
in the rock garden or as an edging to flower borders, but can also be
planted in the spaces between patio paving, to soften the impact of so
much hard landscaping.

Flowers:
Easily grown long flowering plants with
unusual ball shaped flower heads on thin wiry stems which make a
pleasant addition to the flower border. Thriving in ordinary garden soil
and particularly useful in full sun and poor soil. They flower and
flower the whole summer long, starting in June and often not stopping
till early November, and the colour range is glorious, from shocking
pink through cerise, red, lilac to palest pink. Attractive in and out of
flower they make pleasing rounded dense cushions of growth which are
evergreen through the winter. Flowers all summer.
Transplant when large enough to handle
into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Place in a cold frame or plunge the pots up to
their rims in a sheltered site outdoors and plant out in the autumn
