A Genus of annuals, biennials and perennials, some of which are evergreen or semi-evergreen, grown for their striking, usually vivid blue trumpet-shaped flowers.

Flowers: From late-Summer to early-Autumn, producing trumpet-shaped, blue flowers, having darker spots and stripes inside.

Cultivation: -

Mostly Gentians prefer light, rich, moist, lime free, neutral to acidic soils, and enjoy full sun only in the coolest of climates. Lime tolerant species are noted. However as a rule of thumb, Autumn flowering Gentians require acidic, peaty, lime-free soil.

 

Propagation: -

Sow seed of species, as soon as ripe, in the cold frame.

Propagate cultivars by division or take rooted offshoots during Spring.
