An Introduction to Creating the Perfect Lawn

Some of you will be lucky enough to have moved to a new property where you have the opportunity to start your gardens from scratch, and some will have inherited a ready made garden, which needs serious work to make it look good. Very few will benefit from moving to a property where all the groundwork for a good garden has already been done.

You can always take the 'Ground Force' approach to gardening by simply clearing the ground and then applying a cosmetic layer of turf to act as the lawn, and make the flower beds appear more attractive with some bark chippings, but at heart you will always know that your garden could have been so much better.

Many people recognise that they need to prepare the soil in their vegetable beds and flower borders if they are to produce a good crop and healthy flowering plants, but take their grass for granted, believing grass to be capable of growing and thriving in any medium, and only needing a regular hair-cut to keep it under control.

We would like you to appreciate that grass is a plant and needs your care and attention if it is to thrive and provide you with a perfect verdant sward to frame your flower beds and show your flowering plants off to perfection.
